Getting a Goodnight's Sleep

이미지
In order to have the most productive day possible, you must have an optimal amount of sleep. There are no exceptions to this. Many argue that they do not need sleep to function that they function fine on three hours of sleep a day. This goes against science, as a good night sleep is what propels productivity the following day. Receiving at least seven hours of sleep (for college students) is essential. Throughout the day, if you get work done as planned and do not get distracted, the entire day is enough time to get what you need done.   Thus, investing in time to get enough sleep will do wonders to your level of concentration the next day. Not only is the number of hours important, the quality is just as important as well.   Turn off all electronics 30 minutes prior to going to bed. For a smooth REM cycle, avoid sleeping in a room with noises and turn off your lamp to receive optimal sleep.   At first getting into a habit of getting a sufficient amount of sleep may be difficult, esp

How to Prevent Burnout

Another way to be productive is to take breaks in between while working. Many people misunderstand the idea of taking a break and at times consider it being lazy or causing you to regress in terms of your progress. Yet taking short breaks in between will prevent you from burning out in the long run.  Scientifically, it is   proven that an individual cannot focus and at the same time be productive for over an hour. Therefore, I suggest you to follow the 50 minute rule. In other words, work hard for 50 minutes straight and put away all distractions and once you hit the   50 minutes mark immediately drop whatever you are doing and take a break.   Also, science proves that doing at least one thing a day that gives you pleasure helps release endorphins and prevent burn out. It gives a person   something to look forward at the end of the day. A couple examples can be getting a foot massage, going to watch a movie, or shopping for new seasonal clothes.   On the outside it may seem that you

How to Deal with Stress to Enhance Productivity

이미지
In the era of a COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions, economic lockdowns and mandatory quarantine, people everywhere including young people of all ages seem to be under an immense amount of stress. Stress could be due to working from home, taking online classes, having to deal with overdue payments, being in-between jobs, long distance relationships or the mundane routines of everyday life. Scientists argue that stress is not always harmful, as it can promote individual growth, self-improvement and prevent individuals from being less affected by future stress; yet, if we allow stress to build up, it can be toxic to our body, spirit and soul. If we attempt to address stress in the wrong way, it becomes, not just complicated but serious. Examples of bad ways include smoking, drinking, less exercise, un-prescribed medication and irregular sleep. I therefore think stress is an important social issue that deserves global attention. Psychologists believe it is impossible to get rid of st

Using the Checklist Method! You must have heard this concept at least once: make a to-do checklist to increase productivity. People many times underestimate the importance of this. Making a checklist the night before of what you have to get done the next day can do wonders for your productivity. Not only is it important to write down what you have to do, ticking the boxes off can be one of the most satisfying parts of your day. This allows your brain to feel a senes of achievement at the end of the day and will motivate you to do this each day.   Many people spend hours just to figure out what they need to get done, which often wastes time. However, if you already have a list of what you must get done the day before, you will save valuable amount of time and can get right to work. Sometimes, the amount of work a person needs to get done each day can seem overwhelming, especially if you get easily distracted or have memory problems.   However, the important part is, almost everyone kn

Using Sleep as a way to Propel Academic Productivity

이미지
Looking back on my childhood, I was raised in a school environment that was extremely academically oriented. Receiving full marks on every assessment and exam was what I lived for and it consumed me completely. As a naive and ambitious 13 year old student, I would purposely sleep at 3AM to prove to myself I was studying “enough” hours, yet I would never perform at an optimal level in any of my courses. I later understood how being deprived of sleep was not only hindering me from reaching my full potential, rather I was doing a major disservice to my overall health. You might be able to get away with being sleep deprived for a couple of weeks, yet once your body reaches an extreme deficit when it comes to sleep, your body will backfire completely. For me personally, the combination of stress, overworking myself, and being sleep deprived for five consecutive years led my body to reaching a breaking point. I was eventually hospitalized due to malnourishment, Bradycardia and other dire hea

How to Deal with Unmotivation: What to do When you Feel Like Doing Nothing

이미지
Everyone reading this post right now has experienced this at least a couple times in their life: dealing with the dilemma of feeling unmotivated. At times, you just feel like spacing out and doing nothing, despite having important tasks ahead of you.   In my experience in high school, I had the natural gift of being productive. Not once did I ever procrastinate, I ticked off everything I had to do the given day, and I always gave 100% in whatever I did in my life. However, an unprecedented brick wall came my way: burn-out.   This is how living an overly productive life can at times lead you to burning-out faster.   I hit an all time low and for the first time in my life, I felt like doing absolutely nothing.   First of all let yourself rest, remove any pressure to be BE or DO anything. Just exist. Stop putting any expectations on yourself. Let your body and mind rest and take time to rejuvenate. Isn’t it ironic? All you have to do is do nothing. Give your body time to heal itself.   Se
